CHEMKA HOT SPRINGS DAY TRIP

Chemka Hot Springs also known as Kikuletwa Hot springs is jungle oasis where you can relax all day amidst the savannah, hidden by a beautiful green forest in Rundugai village, West Kilimanjaro. The hot springs are about 1.5 hours from Arusha and 1 hour from nearby Moshi Town by car, this beautiful mineral spring that originates from Kilimanjaro ground waters is one of the hidden gems of Tanzania that you’ll enjoy visiting.

Surrounded by a lush forest of palm and fig trees with winding roots, blue Monkeys can often be observed in the trees around the morning. Swim and relax in the naturally heated geo-thermal waters that are about 6 meters deep in some places and the bottom is visible through the crystal- clear waters and so a beach-towel, as well as a snorkel and mask will enhance your experience at the hot springs.

You will be accompanied by our driver/guide and can spend as little or as long as you like, with the option to camp overnight in this idyllic spot.

TOUR OVERVIEW

DAY 1: MOSHI/ARUSHA – CHEMKA HOT SPRINGS

We’ll take you up from your Moshi hotel about 8-9 a.m. and drive you to the Chemka Hot Springs. The road to the Hot Springs is highly bumpy and windy, so the drive takes more than an hour. During the journey, you can appreciate the beautiful surroundings of sugar cane farms, dried river beds, baobab and acacia trees, and true Tanzanian life.

After we arrive at the hot springs, you will have free time to swim, snorkel, sunbathe, and relax. It is encouraged that you speak with the people; this will greatly enhance your experience of the area.
We’ll have a picnic lunch around midday and return to Moshi in the late afternoon

OTHER ACTIVITIES ON YOUR CHEMKA HOT SPRINGS DAY TOUR

• Rundugai Village Tour: A tour of Rundugai village includes a walking around the village with a local guide to learn the daily socio-economic activities of different ethnic groups co-existing in one village. This includes visiting a Maasai Market (only Mondays), local brewery to learn how locals make their beer and wines, visit a Midwife, Herbalist, local weavers, local farmers and before you visit the Kikuletwa Hot springs.

• Maasai Village Tour (3 to 4 Hours): A tour to an authentic Maasai village offers an insight into the local Maasai culture. You will spend time learning about the Maasai tribe way of life, livestock keeping, food and drink, cattle herding, Masai mud hut construction and participate in their traditional dances.
