The Serengeti is a vast savannah that stretches over 14,000 sq km and is home to the largest mammal migration in the world. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, is also home to the Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed volcano that forms a natural enclosure for a variety of animals, including elephants, rhinos, and buffalos.
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our friendly guide will greet you and assist with your transfer to Arusha, a bustling town nestled in the heart of Tanzania’s Northern Circuit parks. The scenic drive will give you a chance to relax and take in the beautiful landscapes, as you journey from the airport to your accommodation in Arusha.
After you check into your midrange hotel in Arusha, you’ll have the rest of the day free to unwind, enjoy a local meal and explore the surroundings at your leisure. The town itself is vibrant and rich in culture, with local markets, art galleries, and cafes that you can explore if time allows.
In the late afternoon or early evening, our guide will provide a detailed safari briefing, where you’ll go over the next few days of adventure, including your upcoming game drives, accommodations, and what to expect from your 3 days safari in Tanzania. You’ll have an early night in preparation for the exciting wildlife encounters that await in the Serengeti plains the next day.
After an early breakfast in Arusha, our guide will pick you up and you’ll begin your journey towards the Serengeti National Park. The drive takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including the towering Ngorongoro Crater in the distance. Along the way, you’ll pass through the rural heartland of Tanzania, where you can catch glimpses of local villages and agricultural lands.
Upon arrival at Serengeti National Park, you’ll immediately begin your game drive. The Serengeti is world-renowned for its expansive savannahs and incredible wildlife sightings. Depending on the season, you may witness the Serengeti Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebras journey across the plains, pursued by predators like lions and cheetahs. You will spend the whole day in the Serengeti, exploring different areas of the park, including the Seronera Valley, which is known for its dense populations of big cats, particularly lions and leopards. Keep your eyes peeled for herds of elephants, giraffes, and zebras, as well as smaller creatures like meerkats, warthogs and various species of antelopes.
A picnic lunch will be provided inside the park, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the serene surroundings of the Serengeti while watching wildlife from a distance. In the afternoon, you’ll continue your game drive, experiencing even more breathtaking views of the endless plains.
As the sun sets, you’ll return to your tented camp inside Serengeti for a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay. The sounds of the wilderness will provide a peaceful backdrop as you relax and unwind after a day of extraordinary wildlife encounters.
You will get up early in the morning for a game drive to witness the spectacular sunrise of the Serengeti (check our guide on the best time to visit Tanzania to plan your trip around these seasonal highlights). The game drive will continue until the early afternoon. Either return to your accommodation for a hot lunch or you will take a lunch pack with you. We will then drive back through the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with game drive en-route, observing more lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles and hyenas. Accommodation and dinner at your category of choice in Karatu region right close-by to the Ngorongoro Crater Area.
After early breakfast at around 5:50 am, descend down crater at 6:00 am for a 6 to 7 hour game drive with a picnic lunch. A real life garden of Eden, Tanzania’s Ngorongoro crater will amaze you by its abundant wildlife that get very close to the vehicle.
As we drive through the crater, you’ll be amazed at how the wildlife seems to surround the vehicle. The floor of the crater is teeming with over 25,000 animals, from lions to elephants, buffalo, zebras and gazelles. There’s a chance you may even see the endangered black rhino, a rare and prized sighting in this protected area. The game-drives in Ngorongoro offers close encounters with hyenas scavenging, hippos wallowing in waterholes, and the incredible variety of birds, including flamingos and geese that call the crater home.
The landscape is equally mesmerizing, with lush grasslands, volcanic craters and serene lakes creating an idyllic backdrop for your safari. Around late afternoon we will ascend from the crater and depart from the Northern Circuit safari region. By 6 to 7pm, you will be dropped off in Arusha or Moshi and say your goodbyes to your team after a fantastic adventure and a lifetime of memories after an amazing 3 days Tanzania safari.
